Rights of children
The National Children's Day of Thailand is observed on second Saturday of January every year. All sectors including government and private, organize events to empathize with the rights of children who will grow up to be the nation's future. On this day, many children are fortunate enough to receive gifts and participate in the programmes. However many children don't get this opportunity and live in conditions that continue to put them at risk of discrimination, abuse, violence and inequity.
Many children continue to remain homeless, and those of ethnic minorities are denied the right to education, and children living with HIV continue to face high degrees of stigma, discrimination and abuse in their daily lives.
Since Thailand is one of the signatories of the right of the child since 1992, and committed itself to protect the basic rights of children including the Right of Survival, Right of Development, Right of Protection and Right of Participation, this present reality where children's basic rights are not respected is not acceptable.
This month's NGO Forum in cooperation with local organizations in Chiang Mai would like to invite you to participate in the special Forum to mark National Children's Day on the rights of Children.
Please come together to share and learn about the current situation and benefit from the opportunity to talk with the children coming to the Forum from The Volunteers for Children's Development Foundation, MAP foundation, People living with HIV/AIDS Network upper north and The Life Skills Development Foundation. This month's NGO Forum will be moderated by Mr Sansern Dongdee from the Thai-Lahu foundation.
At the end, children will read their statement. Also a lot of fun activities are planned!
