Counseling: Empowering People Living with HIV/AIDS
While there is still no cure for HIV/AIDS, it is evident that when People Living with HIV/AIDS (PWHA) have adequate knowledge, understanding and moral support from people and society around them, they can better face related problems and live and function happily in society. Psychological and social support enables PWHA to gain strength to maintain normal lives and interactions on a daily basis.
Counseling for building self confidence and empowerment is a necessary process for PWHA and others who are facing problems in daily life. During these sensitive and difficult times counseling can heal and decrease suffering. The counseling process and counselors are vital elements to help PWHA through this critical time in their life.
Currently there are numerous organizations including government and the private sector that have counseling programs for PWHA. This month the NGO Forum is going to focus on Counseling: Empowering People Living with HIV/AIDS. Speakers will include Ms. Ouyporn Khuankaew, Director of International Women’s Partnership for Peace and Justice (IWP), Ms. Warisara Pornchayapakul from the Anonymous Clinic, Chiang Mai Red Cross, and Ms. Wipaval Wongsawad from the Sarapee Centre. The moderator will be Ms. Amporn Boontan.
