The Key Correspondent (KC) Team is the heart and soul of Health & Development Networks (HDN). KCs come from all corners of the globe, from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and have one major thing in common: They are committed to raising the voices of those who may not otherwise be able to ‘Speak their World’ on health and development issues from the ground, especially HIV and TB.

Working from within communities, KCs write and report on the local realities of those living and dealing with HIV and TB. KCs are doctors and nurses, journalists, counselors, program coordinators, managers, policy makers, strategic planners, advocacy specialists, teachers, and simply anyone who cares enough to ‘speak their world’.

KCs are in-country writers who work in HIV and TB as well as people who are affected by and living with HIV and TB. KCs help document local HIV and TB realities, making sure that people who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to tell their stories have a way to be heard. KCs come from specific marginalized and vulnerable communities identified by country mapping processes. KCs contribute to developing clear national advocacy frameworks, highlighting key issues, monitoring developments in each country’s response to AIDS and TB and generating articles for HDN’s National Partnership Platforms. KCs receive ongoing capacity building support for writing, analysis and issue-mapping skills.

Providing high quality articles and reports featuring local perspectives is a fundamental link to engaging and empowering communities while creating an effective response to HIV and TB. Civil society individuals, equipped with information and knowledge of life at the community level, are better able to stimulate dialogue within the community, bring national, regional and global partners together, and hold policy makers accountable to their constituencies.

This team of citizen journalists gain special media access to conferences, work with key strategic partners and leaders in the fields of health and development, and use this greater access to produce high-quality information and dialogue that is published online, in print, in radio and television throughout the world. KCs are the eyes and ears on the ground, highlighting key issues and contributing local voices to advocacy efforts.
